The Ache of Not Belonging
"Seeing From Within"
There is a particular kind of ache
that comes from feeling present…
but not fully seen.
From standing in rooms
where you are welcomed,
but not deeply understood.
From showing up…
yet quietly wondering
if you truly belong.
This ache is not always loud.
Sometimes it whispers.
It asks:
“Why does this feel off?”
“Why do I still feel alone here?”
“Why do I keep trying so hard to fit?”
For a long time,
I thought belonging meant being accepted everywhere.
But healing is teaching me something different.
Belonging is not about forcing resonance.
It is not about abandoning yourself
to be understood by those
who cannot fully meet you where you are.
True belonging feels different.
It feels like exhaling.
It feels like peace.
It feels like not having to explain
the deepest parts of yourself just to be received.
And maybe the ache itself
was never punishment.
Maybe it was guidance.
A holy discomfort
leading me away from spaces
that require performance…
And toward spaces
that welcome truth.
With Love,
Carlene🌿
