Learning to Be Invited, Not Needed
"Seeing From Within" A Quiet Place to Return to Yourself
There was a time when being needed felt like connection.
If someone called, I answered.
If something was wrong, I stepped in.
If there was a gap, I filled it.
I didn’t question it.
I just showed up.
What I Thought It Meant
I thought being needed meant:
I mattered
I was valued
I was part of something
And in many ways, it did.
But it also kept me in a pattern
of constant giving.
What Began to Shift
I started noticing something.
Being needed and being invited
are not the same thing.
The Difference
Being needed often comes with urgency.
Expectation.
Unspoken pressure.
Being invited feels different.
It is:
clear
respectful
spacious
There is room to choose.
Learning to Step Back
I’ve had to learn how to pause
before automatically stepping in.
To ask:
Was I invited… or did I assume I should go?
Is this mine to carry… or am I filling a role?
What I’m Learning
I don’t need to be everywhere
to be connected.
I don’t need to be needed
to have value.
And I don’t need to step in
to prove I care.
A Quiet Prayer
Father,
Teach me to recognize true invitation.
Give me the wisdom to pause
before stepping in.
Let me give from willingness,
not obligation.
And remind me that I am allowed to choose
where I place my presence.
Amen.
For You
If you feel the pull to show up automatically…
pause.
And ask:
“Was I invited?”
My Anchor
I do not need to be needed.
I choose where I am present.
With love,
Carlene 🌿
